Auctions ended Tues noon! Sponsor the Saturn V at International Spaceflight Museum!

SPNN News, Spaceport Bravo, the SciLands, Second LifeISM is again auctioning off half-year sponsorship rights to the most noticeable and famed rocket in both Spaceports.  Also being auctioned separately on eBay are the crawler-transporter that took the 4500-ton gantry & stack out to the launch pad, and the gantry tower that cradled the 3000 ton 369 foot tall moon rocket.  [Update – Amazingly, U$82 captured all three auction items! Six months from now, the next winner isn’t going to grab such a foresighted bargain at this low a winning bid.  Congratulations!  To ISM member Neit Tackleberry, as it turned out at the Wednesday ISM Planners meeting.]

Looking up at the underside of the gantry tower’s platform that the crawler carried out the pad.  The swirling disc around my head?  I’d just been at a MICA star simulations planning meeting, and was still wearing my slowly spinning Milky Way Galaxy.  :)

If you look to the right of the leftmost brown crawler, I’m the 3-pixel high figure standing there to show you the scale.  At one time, the gantry was the third-tallest structure in Florida, and the Saturn 5 itself was the fifth.  You can see the sponsorship plaques on the platform.  This exhibit is located at the entrance to Spaceport Bravo, the 2nd of ISM’s 2 (current) islands, where over 1300 unique avatars visit every week to enjoy the many space exhibits.

Your winning bid entitles you to put your personal or business name, 29 characters maximum, on the Museum exhibit plaque for a half-year, a full six months!  ISM is one of the most famous sites and sights in Second Life ™, and, to cite one (possibly prejudiced) NASA observer: “ISM is the jewel of SL!”  For an additional fee, you can also include your corporate logo.

Keep track here of all present and future ISM sponsor auctions.  Past winners include school classes, anonymous donors, Second Life businesses, and RL (Real Life) corporations.  Join these proud donors in supporting a great educational space science and engineering Museum!  Here’s the flickr set of full-sized pictures.  At my personal blog, I use my ISM sponsorships as an example of what your ISM contribution could look like.

Speaking of future past auctions, the most famous rocket of all, the “Big S,” is was in auction until Tues noon SLT, PDT, 3 pm Eastern, GMT-7.  Good luck winning it!  What’s the Big S?  The Saturn V stack that lofted 9 expeditions to Luna …
